crochet virkad cardigan kofta melerat rosa pink garn yarn virkgarn crochet thread

This Summer cardigan is made from av self-striping yarn in mercerized cotton from Yarn-Paradise named Almina. It's a lot like our normal 8/4 crochet  thread (#2-yarn) I used crochet hook 2,5 mm. I could have used a larger hook, but think that the striping looks best if I work with a smaller hook.

This time I thought more function than design while working. I wanted the cardigan to be:

  • Short and wide to fit all kind of clothing (dress or trousers)
  • The front should be light enough to stay in place without buttoning.
  • The lower part should not be too heavy
  • Extra warmth over the shoulders.

I made it like this:

I started with a square that I found in Novita's Summer Magazine 201520150711_113345This was my core piece for the back. I had to make it larger, since I was usuing a smaller hook than in the original pattern.

20150711_113356The shoulder part is just double crochets.

I kept on with the same pattern for the front pieces and left an opening for the armholes.

turqoise crochet tunic dress virkad turkos tunika klänning filet filetvirkning

This is my turquoise filet crochet tunic. It was so fun to make and it is so nice and soft to wear. The colour is stunning in real life. The yarn is a crochet thread, which I consider being my favourite crochet thread: Järbo 8/4 (mercerized and gassed cotton). I used crochet hook 3 mm. The thread is so easy to work with: It glides nicely over the hook. I used about 2,5 200 grams-skeins, so totally about 500 grams.

wpid-fb_img_1436787582112.jpgI found the diagram for the rose pattern somewhere on the internet (can't find my way to the page again!). I first made a back and a front piece for the body. Here you can se the finished back piece and the almost finished front piece, only one shoulder is left to make.20150723_145443

I added a skirt to the body and tried to pick up the pattern from the rose-part at the body.

The trimming around the neckline and the armholes are easy:

Runt halsen och ärmhålen gjorde jag en enkel kant:
Round 1: Single crochets
Round 2: 1 half double crochet, 1 chain
Round 3: Single crochets

The technique I've used i called filet crochet. It's often used for making curtains and table cloths but it looks nice in clothing too. You create structure and patterns in your work by using filled and empty sqaures.

Empty square: 1 dc, 1 ch (alt. 2 ch if you use a really thin thread) 1 dc
Filled square: 3 dc (alt. 4 dc if you use a really thin thread)

You can use any pattern that is built up from squares with this technique, e.g. cross stitch patterns and diagrams. I printed the diagram and marked every finished line with a marker, so I could keep track of my proceeding.

A graphic view of how it's done: (st, stolpar = dc, lm = ch)

pink crochet sweater virkad rosa kofta med knytning odd molly inspireradMy daughter loves the Odd Molly jackets and wanted something similar to them. She appreciates that she gets something that's absolutely unique when her mother has made it, which makes me happy and it's fun to crochet for her.

I used this pattern as base Drops 136-13.

The structure is:
Round 1: Single crochets
Round 2: Treble crochets.

The yarn is from Yarn-Paradise and is named Favorite Pink Worsted (210 m/100 g, 100% akryl). I used hook 5 mm.

The yarn is nice to work with and looks nice after washing. The colour is a sweet bubblegum pink, which is super for my teenage daughter.

crochet vest in flax linen cotton virkad väst i bomull och linMy younger sister has her birthday and I couln't find any suitable present for her. What do you give to a person that has everything already? Therefore, I made a cute litte vest for her in flax (linen) / cotton. The pattern is Drops 118-26 and the yarn is from Yarn-Paradise and is named Iroko fine (70% bomull, 70% flax (=lin), 200 meter / 50 gram). I used crochet hook 3,5 mm.

20141025_164149The pattern was easy to follow and Drops always have diagrams with measurements, so it's easy to see that the work is of correct size.

The yarn was different from what I had expecte: It was dull in structure and did not glide very well on the hook. It split easily and I didn't like to crochet with it at all.The yarn felt heavy and harsh at start, but softens up as you work with it.
